Swiss ZfK55 Rifle Review

The user “thirsty”, of AR15.com, has posted this great write up and range report on the Swiss ZfK55 rifle. And with his permission I have reconstructed the thread for you here. I had to cut it down a bit due to the number of photos. Enjoy the eye candy:

The Zielfernrohrkarabiner Modell 1955 or “scoped carbine model of 1955” is a design based largely on the K31. It also is referred to as K31/55 or ZfKar.55. There were a total of 4150 ZfK55 rifles manufactured, beginning with serial number 1000. My example is serial number 2397 and was manufactured in 1958. These rifles saw only a few years of service in the Swiss Army before being retired and issued to Swiss police snipers or sold to private individuals. Most rifles show signs of being used extensively, though there are the rare examples that were never issued.

Like the K31, the ZfK uses a simplified Schmidt-Rubin straight pull action and is chambered in the excellent 7.5×55mm Swiss. But while it looks like a modified K31, there’s actually very little parts commonality between the two, as in only 5 or 6 parts that are readily interchangeable, including the 6-round magazines. The scope, scope storage can and magazine are all serialized to the rifle. From a collector’s standpoint, an all matching numbers ZfK55 includes the scope and can. Not having them is detrimental to the value.

The ZfK has a receiver machined with mounting lugs for the scope. The receiver is canted to the right so stripper clips and ejected cartridges clear the scope. The scope is designed so it mounts directly over the bore axis, making sight-in a breeze. The windage drum is graduated whereas the elevation drum is not.

Even the magazine is canted. K31 included in pic for comparison.

The Zfk weighs almost 5 pounds heavier than the K31 due to the weight of the scope, the heavy barrel, and bipod assembly. The barrel is free floated and as you can see in the picture there is minimal contact between the stock, barrel band and the barrel. The stock and upper hand guard are inletted to prevent contact.

The bipod mounts to the receiver so as not to interfere with the free-floated barrel.

The barrel is equipped with a unique beehive flash hider that is extremely effective at reducing felt recoil. In my opinion, the ZfK55 has recoil comparable to that of an M1A. The flash hider also gives the ZfK a distinctive report.

The matching Kern 3.5x scope has a simple reticle as seen in the picture. Also pictured below is a section of the rifle’s manual showing how the reticle was used on targets of varying distances. The rifle should be sighted in at 300 meters to best take advantage of GP-11 ballistics. Once sighted in at 300m, there is only 1 diopter difference between 100 and 300, and 300 and 500 meters. I’m not quite sure what a diopter is.

The scope storage can is designed to hold the scope firmly and protect it from the elements as well as impacts. Swiss snipers were trained to keep the scope in the can until they were in position in order to prevent any damage to the optics. The Kern scopes are not comparable to modern glass; they are actually pretty delicate despite weighing more than a pound. In the pic, you can see the large rubber gasket that serves to seal the can as well as clamp the scope firmly in place. You can see the tool to the right of the pic used to lock the adjustment drum screws in place to prevent the drums from moving once zeroed.

The ZfK bolt is different due to the angled design of the receiver. It also has a third locking lug toward the base of the bolt sleeve.

The rifle is a joy to shoot. The combination of weight and flash hider dampens the recoil considerably and allows for faster follow-up shots. I put a 60-round brick of GP-11 downrange with little fatigue and I was disappointed I didn’t bring more.

The bipod works great in prone position it fits me perfectly. The bipod itself is loosely mounted on a swivel so it has side-to-side adjustability for shooting on rough or uneven terrain. Thanks to Swiss engineering and maintenance ethics this rifle has a mint bore and smooth operation.

This rifle is still capable of shooting excellent groups in the hands of a marksman, which I am not. I’m not at all a consistent shooter but I find it easy to make good shots with the ZfK55. My only dislike is the need for a chin weld to get a good sight picture. This is something that can be cured with a strap-on cheek rest, however.

These targets were shot at 100 yards prone with 1980’s GP-11 surplus. This target shows a 12-shot group. I can only account for 10 hits so two rounds passed through existing holes.

zfk55target3 The Swiss ZfK55 A Beautifully Unique Rifle
My best group was 1.5” @ 100yrds. Not too shabby for a 50yr old rifle and poorly disciplined shooter.

The ZfK55 is an outstanding rifle. They are very expensive simply due to rarity. But if you have the funds and want something unique and rare to shoot, the ZfK fits the bill.

I’m mad as hell and I’m going to take it anymore RE guns crossing the boarder to mexico

All the bull coming from ever “” group ever day about gun’s and frankly put as well are flat out LIE’S. Think about it. We here in America can not purchase fully automatic ’s. It is not only FLAT OUT ILLEGAL TO PURCHASE a fully automatic , but, it also illegal to own one. The ONLY legally owned full auto firearms are “antiques” and worth more money then it would cost to import a full auto AK 47 from russa. I keep hearing on the drive by “media” that tons of are crossing the border to mexico, I just heard on the Oreilly Factor with Newt Gingridge, Newt said we have to stop the “tons” of going across to mexico. Fact is this:
The ONLY firearms that COULD be crossing the border are
A: Pistols
B: Shotguns
C: Riffles
and
D: Legal to purchase “assault” weapons. I.E. AR-15′s and so forth.
Again Semi Auto weapons are not being used down there. Full auto AK-47′s, M16′s, M60′s, and so forth. Most if not ALL of the “American” firearms were sold to the mexican government and military buy the USA Government. I’m sure a lot of pistols are going south of the border. However, ALL legally purchased here. What private citizens chose to do with there privately owned pistols is not the governments business.
I know this is very hard for people to do, but, use logic when you are talking about this topic, NOT emotion.
I really wise the news whores would wake the hell up and stop lying about . That includes cnn fox news, abc, cbs, nbc, ny times, the washington post, and all the others.

Shooting in Butte , Montana Shotgun preteen vs. illegal alien Home Invaders

You will NEVER see anything like this on the “mainstreem” .

Butte, Montana November 5, 2007

Two illegal aliens, Ralphel Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26, probably believed they would easily overpower home-alone 11 year old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two-story home..

It seems the two crooks never learned two things:  they were in Montana ,  and Patricia had been a clay shooting champion since she was nine.

Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the front door of the house.  She quickly ran to her father’s room and grabbed his 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.

Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor only to be the first to catch a near point blank blast of buckshot from the 11-year-old’s knee crouch aim.  He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals.

When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder and staggered out into the street where he bled to death before medical help could arrive.

It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45 caliber handgun he took from another home invasion robbery.  That victim, 50-year-old David Burien, was not so lucky.  He died from stab wounds to the chest

Ever wonder why good stuff never makes NBC, CBS, PBS, MSNBC, CNN, or ABC news……..an 11 year old girl, properly trained, defended her home, and herself……against two illegal immigrants…….and she wins, she is still alive.

Now that is Gun Control !

Thought for the day:

Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”

Rossi Puma Lever-Action Carbine Review

A Traditional Cowboy Rifle in .45 Colt

Long, long ago, in those frivolous carefree days when Americans had the money to pursue their dreams and hobbies with reckless abandon, the sport of cowboy action shooting burst upon the American firearms scene.

The sport required participants to dress in period costume and participate in shooting events using original or reproduction firearms of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Typically, cowboy action shooters needed two single-action pistols, a rifle, and a shotgun.

This desire for multiple spawned demand for reproduction firearms like the Rossi M92 Puma carbine. Since many original nineteenth century firearms were no longer up to the rigors of regular shooting, shooters felt safer shooting a reproduction that incorporated modern materials and safety features. In addition, to simplify logistics, cowboy action shooters often sought firearms that all shot the same caliber of . The Rossi Puma Lever-Action Carbine can be bought in several different calibers. For example, I chose .45 Colt so that I could use the same for my rifle and my Ruger Vaquero.

The Puma carbine is a convenient size for defending the old homestead or for trail drives down to the typical suburban shooting range. My Rossi M92 Puma has a 20-inch barrel and an overall length of 37 and 1/2 inches. Like the classic 1892 Winchester Rifle that it emulates, the Rossi Puma just handles well and seems like a natural fit for almost any shooter. Like many Brazilian-made firearms, the guns remain timeless while the importers change. You may find this classic cowboy carbine sold today as the Legacy M92 Puma. According to the Guns and 2009 Buyers guide, the Legacy M92 Carbine comes in .357 Magnum/.38 Special, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, and .480 Ruger and in barrel lengths from 16 to 24 inches.

300 Savage Riffle Review

The .300 Savage for a long time has been a rifle that is often overshadowed by better-known brands and calibers. However, for reliability, durability, and capability, it is a weapon that is hard to beat for deer and other big game hunting.

The rifle is built as a lever action, and the lever is well contoured to the grip, making it comfortable to hold or cock. The lever itself is easy to use, and the ejection of casings and reloading of the chamber is smooth, easy, and quick.
Shells are loaded through a side-mounted cylinder, and a simple small brass counter allows the hunter to easily see how many rounds remain in the cylinder with a simple turn of the wrist.

The stock is available in a couple different woods, but all are very well made, and even refinishing isn’t a very big chore. There is one downside of the stock, however, in that unless specifically ordered otherwise, it tends to be a little shorter than those of many other rifles. Being 6’3″, this makes the stock a little short for me. However just getting an additional recoil pad easily compensated for this small shortcoming.

The rifling is clean, tight, and well engineered to give the bullet the maximum spin as it leaves the barrel, which increases the accuracy.
The rifle is easier to clean and maintain than many other rifles, especially since the breach can be opened so wide.

Often considered a brush gun because of its light weight, this under rated rifle has capabilities that are as good as or surpass weapons that are more commonly considered as long-range rifles. The trajectory of the bullets isn’t as flat, or the speed of the bullet as great as in the .30-06, however I’ve witnessed open range shots of well over 300 yards that have resulted in a clean takedown of a moving target. Yet it is indeed light and easy to carry in brush, if that is where you are hunting.

This rifle can easily be set with a scope, though it functions perfectly well with open sights.

Bullet grain sizes vary widely, however 150 gr. is pretty standard for most big game, giving adequate hitting and knockdown power while also giving the range to make more distant shots.

The .300 Savage should get the praise it deserves. It is a good rifle for short distance, brush, and long rang shooting, it functions well and easily, it is easy to clean, and it is lightweight. Best of all, it is accurate. If you are considering a hunting rifle, this should definitely be on the potential list of choices.

ALL PRIVATE GUNS WILL BE CONFISCATED BY SEPTEMBER 2009, US TELLS RUSSIA

Truth, Lies, bull shit? Read below and you decide.

Kremlin reports on the extraordinary meeting held today between President Medvedev and former United States Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger (under Nixon), James Baker (under Bush Sr.), Charles Shultz (under Regan), former United States Defense Secretary William Perry (under Clinton), and former US Senator and top defense expert Sam Nunn, are stating that the Americans are acknowledging for the first time their acceptance of a New Global Order in which they seek to partner with natural resource rich Russia and the oil rich Nations of the Middle East in order to ensure their survival into the 21st Century.
Leading the United States to the shocking conclusion that their very survival is at risk has been the evaporation of 45 percent of the World’s wealth which has caused a rapid plunge in Global manufacturing leading to a 49 percent collapse in US trade exports which the International Monetary Fund is reported has caused the World’s economy to shrink for the first time in 60 years and has lead Canada’s Central Bank chief David Dodge to state the World is “facing a long and deep recession that will fundamentally alter the nature of capitalism”.

Though Prime Minister Putin has warned that “resorting to a printing press would be unwise and extremely dangerous”, the already bankrupt United States, whose staggering debt is four times higher than their entire National income, has allowed its Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben “Throw Money Out of Helicopters” Bernanke to ‘create out of thin air’ a further $1.2 Trillion to stabilize the American economy, but which in turn has led to the collapse of the US Dollar leading the United Nations to recommend next week that the World “ditch the dollar as its reserve currency in favor of a shared basket of currencies”.

Russian economists further state in these reports that the United States has been left with ‘no other option’ than to force the massive devaluation of the US Dollar in order to ‘shake lose’ from banks and private investors the hundreds of billions they are currently hoarding and is being blamed for collapsing a United States where consumer spending accounts for two-thirds of its economy and which without money to borrow, or borrowers to loan to, is fast approaching the abyss.

With the devaluation of the US dollar, however, massive inflation will ensue causing the value of these currently hoarded hundreds of billions of US Dollars to plummet and forcing them to be spent before they become totally worthless, a policy which China, the largest Global holder of US debt, has voiced increasing concerns about and have cut back on their purchases of American debt even as desperation hits their own factories as orders plunge.
These top American Officials have also assured President Medvedev that new laws being written by the Obama administration will ‘completely’ reform the American financial system by fully integrating it into a single Global Economy due to be enacted during the coming G-20 summit in London.
When President Medvedev voiced his concerns to the Americans over his belief that the US Congress would not allow such a radical new set of laws to pass, these reports continue, Kissinger stated that the American people were being ‘primed’ to overwhelm their lawmakers into swiftly enacting ‘in its entirety’ the Obama administrations new banking and financial laws by the outrageous behavior of those collapsed financial giants that includes: 1.) The insurance giant AIG which after receiving over $300 billion in US taxpayer money paid out nearly $200 million in bonuses; 2.) The collapsed stock selling giant Merrill Lynch which after receiving $20 billion in US taxpayer money paid out $3.6 billion in bonuses; and 3.) The collapsed US banking giant Citigroup who after receiving $45 billion in US taxpayer money announced a $10 million redecoration of their executive office suites.
from the United States today further confirm Kissinger’s assertions to President Medvedev as US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has now admitted that he had ordered US Senator Christopher Dodd to include the executive pay provision into the stimulus bill which was, in fact, a loophole allowing these controversial bonuses to be paid out.

To such machinations being utilized by their supposed ‘leaders’ against them in order to pave the road from a once sovereign United States to this New World Order these Americans remain nearly clueless, but when pressed by President Medvedev on the plans to ensure that civil society on the North American continent doesn’t break down Kissinger reportedly replied, “By September we’ll have confiscated all privately owned so it really doesn’t matter what we do, we’ll still be in charge”.

Russian Intelligence reports state that gun ownership statistics in the United States vary widely, but is estimated to be that nearly 50 percent of US households have nearly 270 million guns, none of which these Americans seem now ready to part with without a fight.

But, new reports coming from the United States show that they are fast adopting the tactics used by the German Nazis to disarm their society prior to the installation of fascist rule and martial law by first rendering all private guns useless by eliminating and restricting the they use. And from new reports coming from the United States we can see that this ‘plan’ is already being instituted with shortages being reported in Idaho, Georgia, and Louisiana, and a new law just introduced in California which would:

1. Stop the private transfer between individuals of more than 50 rounds of ammunition.

2. License and tax anyone selling handgun ammunition commercially and force these stores to get background checks on anyone selling ammunition.

3. Get a thumbprint from anyone buying handgun ammunition.

4. Ban all ammunition sales that don’t take place face-to- face, in other words, ban mail-order sales.

Even more chilling for American gun owners was the Obama administrations order to the US Military on March 12 which stated Effective immediately DOD Surplus, LLC, will be implementing new requirements for mutilation of fired shell casings. The new DRMS requirement calls for DOD Surplus personnel to witness the mutilation of the property and sign the Certificate of Destruction.” which would have crippled the US ammunition industry, who are the largest purchasers of used military ammunition brass, but after found out about by US Senators was quickly withdrawn.

To the reasons feared by the leadership class in the United States of their citizens retaining the right to firearms we can read:
“As the growing world-wide economic crisis deepens, military forces from Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom are preparing to meet angry citizens on the street. The economic crisis – and the public outrage it is causing – is at the forefront of intelligence agencies and military forces in the western world.

Prominent trends forecaster Gerald Celente has been sounding the alarm for years, warning that riots and tax revolts are coming to America. The Pentagon, U. K. Ministry of Defense, and Canadian military apparently agree. In November of 2008 the United States Army War College released the report Known Unknowns: Unconventional “Strategic Shocks” in Defense Strategy Development. The report identifies economic collapse as a reason for the defense establishment to conduct domestic operations. The report states,

“Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security. Deliberate employment of weapons of mass destruction or other catastrophic capabilities, unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency…”
The CIA and MI5 are both watching the economic situation for signs of unrest and  olitical instability. As the Washington Post reports, the CIA has added an economic situation report to its threat assessment for the White House. A further sign that the United States government is anticipating widespread unrest comes with the domestic stationing of the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division. The Army Times reports,
“They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control or to deal with potentially horrific scenarios such as massive poisoning and chaos in response to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive, or CBRNE, attack.”

Canadian military forces have been given a nearly identical domestic mission in a synchronized move with the United States. Canada’s National Post reports that, “The Canadian military has embarked on a wide-ranging plan to turn its reserve soldiers into focused units trained and equipped to respond to a nightmarish array of domestic threats, including terrorist “dirty bomb” attacks, biological agent containment, Arctic catastrophes and natural disasters.”

Reports from the United States are also revealing that for the first time since their Civil War, active duty US Army Troops were put into the streets of Alabama after the killing spree of a crazed gunman, but which the US Army is now reporting it is ‘investigating’ because it doesn’t know who deployed them.

To whom the leadership elite in America are actually planning on protecting themselves from we can further read: “A new document meant to help Missouri law enforcement agencies identify militia members or domestic terrorists has drawn criticism for some of the warning signs mentioned.
The Feb. 20 report called “The Modern Militia Movement” mentions such red flags as political bumper stickers for third-party candidates, such as U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, who ran for president last year; talk of conspiracy theories, such as the plan for a superhighway linking Canada to Mexico; and possession of subversive literature.”

As to what these dangerous American terrorists can expect once they are in the custody of their US intelligence services?

“The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) concluded in 2007 that US methods to extract information from prisoners at secret CIA jails as part of the “war on terror” amounted to torture.”

Even worse for these dissident Americans are the chilling revelations from top investigative news journalist Seymour Hersh: “After 9/11, I haven’t written about this yet, but the Central Intelligence Agency was very deeply involved in domestic activities against people they thought to be enemies of the state. Without any legal authority for it. They haven’t been called on it yet. That does happen.”

So today, as  the United States ‘watch list’ for domestic and International terrorists has hit 1 million names, in a country that already has more prisoners than any other Nation in the World, or our entire Earths’ history for that matter, and as sales of weapons and ammunition are still hitting record highs in America since President Obama’s election, it would appear more than likely that the assertions of US officials to Russia that they remain in control of their country is highly doubtful…and needing just one single ‘spark’ to plunge it into full scale civil war.

And whose to say that hasn’t been their ‘plan’ all along?

The most draconian piece of anti-second amendment legislation yet seen

A shocking new gun control law recently introduced in Albany County is being labeled the most draconian piece of anti-second amendment legislation yet seen. The law requires buyers of all , even shotgun pellets, to provide their drivers license, state their purpose for buying the , and have the information retained and accessible by law enforcement for no less than 10 years.

Anyone buying rounds or shells, even .22s, for hunting or target shooting in Albany State, New York, would have to provide ID, declare the gun and have its serial number registered with the seller. Based on the information provided by the buyer as to the purpose of buying the ammunition, the seller could block the purchase.

The bill is known as “Local Law Number A For 2009″  and was introduced at the Albany State Legislature on March 3rd.

Gun groups have slammed the law as the first step towards backdoor registration of rifles and shotguns.

Such detailed information would provide authorities with a voluminous database of gun owners and would be the perfect “red list” used to target gun owners in the event of a declaration of martial law, which many have forecast could occur following a total economic collapse or a biological terrorist attack.

As Fred Lebrun writes in the Times Union, “Anyway you look at it, this amounts to yet another unreasonable assault on lawful gun owners and hunters without any logic behind it except to harass. It’s ludicrous.”

“Not to mention that this flies in the face of a long tradition in this state, and in nearly all other states, of not registering long – that is, rifles or shotguns. These are not weapons typically used in crimes or the illegal gun trade, anyway.”

The bill is part of a wider trend of draconian gun control legislation that has been introduced on the national level since the 111th Congress began.

The most disturbing bill nationally is H.R. 45, which would require a federal license for all handguns and semiautomatics, including those already possessed by gunowners. The legislation would also, “Require handgun and semi-auto owners to be thumbprinted at the police station and to sign a certificate that, effectively, the will not be kept in a place where it would be available for the defense of the gun owner’s family,” according to the Gun Owners of America website.

All New guns and ammo lawmakers are layers

This may sound like paranoid ranting. However, I’ve been seeing reports coming from across the country about local and state laws. Laws like AB 962 in California and others. That state something along the lines of requiring fingerprints, background checks, and even registration of your and . Here is where the paranoid part comes in. If the federal government knows exactly what type and caliber of you buy, then they can guestamit what types of firearms you own. And one step futher hr-45 in the feds range requiring you to register your firearms and take a background check and mental exam. Could the government be preparing to roll the troupes in and forceable remove all of our legally owned firearms? They (the demorcrats and liberals in local, state, and federal government) be expecting a civil war? Do they know that they will be doing something that the mast majority of people will strongly disagree with? And by doing it if the average citizen would (if they still had them) take up arms to prevent it? While technically, none of these laws that look like if they do pass, are not a direct attack on the second amendment. I am forced to wonder what is coming. Am I being paranoid? Maybe and hopefully I am. However if I’m not will you be ready? Also it has been said that “believing people are following me is paranoid, until it’s proven they are” I don’t know for sure, but I am damn sick and tired of these laws trying to be passed claiming it’s to prevent gang bangers and criminals from getting . My biggest problems with those clames is this. Gang bangers and criminals are already prevented by law from having . So these claims by the lawmakers are bold faced lies. Ever fucking one of them are lying. No and’s if’s or but’s about it. Don’t be fooled by slick talk, rabble rousing, and fear tactics. Think logically. That’s what I try at least to do.

Your thought’s as always are welcome.

Firearms bill turns up a House full of scofflaws

The House bogged down Thursday over a bill that would make it easier to carry a loaded shotgun in a vehicle. But it wasn’t anti-gun legislators that raised the red flags.

Several hunters in the House of Representatives objected to the bill, which would let carry permit holders keep a loaded rifle or shotgun in their vehicles. The measure was meant to protect permit holders from prosecution under the state’s hunting laws, which define a loaded as one that has the in the vicinity.

279547_dThat means having a box of shells next to a shotgun could be considered carrying a loaded weapon, said the measure’s sponsor, Rep. Henry Fincher.

“Somebody called this a -in-trunks bill. I think that’s as good a way to describe it as anything else,” he said. “We have a law that doesn’t make common sense and is therefore at odds with common rural practices.”

But several hunting members of the House said the bill would give credence to an overly expansive view of carrying loaded weapons. Several said they’d carried in their vehicles for decades.

How could you go hunting without doing that?

“We’re making it clear that you violate the law,” Rep. Craig Fitzhugh said in explaining his reservations about the bill. “There’s some wiggle room right now.”

After more than half an hour of debate, the measure passed 82-10.
