State shouldn’t take your guns or ammo under martial law in Idaho acording to Idaho House of rep

State government could not seize private arms or during a state of martial law under a bill approved Tuesday by the Idaho House.

Rep. Pete Nielsen, R-Mountain Home, sponsored the bill. He cited Hurricane Katrina and the bedlam that developed in the aftermath in New Orleans and other Gulf Coast cities as an example of a time when people needed their arms and .

“Even in those instances, we should have the right to keep our Second Amendment right and keep our arms and ,” Nielsen said.

Rep. Grant Burgoyne, D-Boise, said the bill takes power away from Idaho’s governor to seize arms and in the case of a rebellion or insurrection.

House Bill 229 passed 61-9 and now goes to the Senate.
